Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond are back with another season of their new motoring show, Grand Tour, and it is even better than the first. When they left the BBC and the long running Top Gear series, many people – including myself – were skeptical that the new show would live up to expectations. The first season the Grand Tour was pretty good, but it just seemed like something was missing. It didn’t quite match the level of polish and shine that Top Gear had. Sure the segments were really highly produced and the three hosts were there, but it just didn’t seem quite right, like they had all the ingredients to a great show but they just weren’t combined in right fashion and instead of a fluffy cake, out came a mushy blob of brownie batter.
However the second season of the show is a nice improvement over the first, and it finally feels like they are finally getting it right.
It feels like the old Top Gear that we know and love is finally back. Episode one of the second season includes the episode where the Hammond crashes the electric super-car the Rimac-One, and it seems like every following episode May and Clarkson make a joke about the crash and tease Hammond to no end. One episode features Clarkson racing in a Ford GT against the other two as they take public transportation and a plane from New York City to Niagara Falls. Another episode features two modern day replicas of original British sports cars from Jaguar and Aston Martin that cost over a million pounds each. Yet another episode features Clarkson taking another shot at a Tesla vehicle, this time trying his hand at the Model X.
